Quiz Trail – Ramsgate Obelisk

The fifth in the Series of fun Town Quiz Trails with the Birchington wellness group

MEET: Birchington Bus stop D (The Square end of Station Road outside barbers, opposite Oakwood) Bus No 48 leaving 9:37am.

OR…Meet at the Obelisk at Ramsgate seafront at 10:10am for 10:15am start but please allow time for everyone travelling with the Birchington group.

WHAT: 1.3 miles / 1-2 hours of slow steady pace, answering clues en-route. Followed by a drink, or light bite to eat.

Volunteer Meet Up in person with POW Thanet

January 7, 10.30am to 12.30pm, Albion House, Ramsgate

Are you interested in volunteering in Thanet? Or are you a regular POW volunteer and want to meet new recruits and find out more about the 2023 opportunities? Then come along to one of the Volunteer Meet-Ups this January.

You can volunteer with POW by:

– supporting Festival events with event management, meet and greet, helping run arts workshops, distributing Festival programmes and posters

– helping with local community projects including programmes for young people and local community groups

– trying your hand at local research and writing on topics such as local history, Thanet trends, inspirational local women

– admin tasks from home including database management, image library, organising fundraising events

– hand and machine sewing as part of the Cheer Quilt project

Hooden Horse Day

10am the centre will host a pop up exhibition on the history of the hooden horse and animal guising.

Dancing in the Dark

Jan 7-29, Liminal Gallery, 34 Fort Hill, Margate

‘Dancing in the Dark’ is a solo exhibition by Alexis Soul-Gray. This new body of paintings by the Devon-based artist focuses on a children’s party, devoid of parents, the children take on the burden of life amongst celebration.

For the first weekend of an exhibition: Saturday 5pm – 8pm and Sunday 11am – 4pm

During the exhibition’s run: Thursday 11am – 4pm and Saturday 11am – 3pm

TORI AND LOKITA (15)

Ramsgate Masonic Centre open day

The centre will be opening its doors to the public on January 7 from 11am to 3pm to provide an insight into the country’s oldest fraternity.

The Royal Navy Lodge is based at the masonic centre on the corner of St Luke’s Avenue/Hardres Street (opposite the children’s play area in Boundary Park).  Its has some 40 members and includes people from a variety of professions including builders, lorry and taxi drivers, car specialists, public servants and self-employed / company directors.

Christmas Tree Chipping and Margate RNLI lifeboat station

January 8, 9.30am- noon, RNLI Margate lifeboat station, Rendezvous, Margate

Recycle your Christmas tree and help save lives at sea
The lifeboat crew at Margate will recycle your tree and make a donation towards saving lives at sea.
Thanks to the generosity of Joseph Weitzel of Margate-based Top Branch Tree Services, (www.topbranch.uk) Joseph and volunteer RNLI lifeboat crew members will be on hand at Margate’s RNLI lifeboat station between 9.30am and midday on Sunday 8 January when members of the public or even businesses, can drop off their Christmas tree to be recycled in a sustainable way.

Joseph said: “Woodchip will be tipped off, maybe at Quex Park for their paths or perhaps at local allotments, but if you have anyone who wants some, then they are welcome to them as there will be plenty!”
There is no charge for the service but any donation towards the charity’s work of saving lives at sea will be much appreciated. Visitors will also be welcome to look around the lifeboat station and meet the crew on the Sunday morning, children will be particularly welcome to have a close look at the lifeboats.
The RNLI Margate Shop will be open for the duration of the event.

Sunday Social

January 8, 11am to 4-m, Board At Home, 107a High Street , Ramsgate

The weekly Sunday Social is the ideal place for people to meet up, play some board games, maybe paint a model or two and enjoy the company of others in a fun, safe and friendly venue.

PAINTING CLUB (6 spaces each week): An afternoon of model painting in the Board Room. Bring along your latest projects or, if you are new to painting miniatures, get some tips from regular members. New to painting? Don’t worry about bringing anything! The venue has paints, brushes and miniatures for you to use as well as Army Painter starter sets available to purchase if you would like to get your own set of paints and brushes.

BOARD GAMES DAY: Grab a table, grab a game and play!

Refreshments are available, from mineral & flavoured water at  50p to cans & hot drinks £1 and sweets, crisps and popcorn from  £1 per bag.

Entry to the Board Room is £2 per person.
