Laleham Gap pupils’ gift to Margate food bank

Donation from Laleham Gap primary pupils

During the last week of term Laleham Gap School gave an “incredibly generous” and much needed  food donation to a Thanet foodbank.

The donation was so large that Darryn De-La-soul from MiFoodbank thought she might have to take two trips to collect it all.

The donations were collected by the primary students over a few weeks as part of the Harvest festival assembly. Resource Manager for Primary, Natalie Hewitt-Zarb said: “It is always lovely to see our children engaged in helping others. That is particularly the case now when there is so much need about. It also means we can advertise the services of foodbanks to our parents and all those who may be in need.”

The school had discussed the campaign in assembly and the students enthusiastically responded. The donations included more than just food with other essentials such as nappies and toiletries too.

In accepting the bumper quantity of goods Darryn said: “I am super pleased. The number of people needing our support is escalating across Thanet. I want to thank the children from Laleham Gap School. It is amazing to witness their kindness. Thinking of others and helping where you can is really important.”

Darryn left with a message for all: “If anyone needs help, please come to us at Duke Street. If you want to give so we can help even more that is great too. Cash is particularly useful so we can buy the things we need. Our aim is to help every person who comes to the shop and respond to every resident of Thanet who is in need.”
