Teen racing driver from Margate hoping to clinch end of season title in Junior Saloon Car Championships

Harvey Dent is hoping to take the championships title

A teenage racing driver from Margate is aiming to take the top spot at the Junior Saloon Car Championships when he completes his final races of the season next month.

Harvey Dent, 17, races in a Citroen Saxo with Westbourne MotorSport. The points are accrued over the season, since March, with the racer amassing the most taking the top spot.

Chatham and Clarendon student Harvey currently sits in third position but the final races at Brands Hatch on November 12/13 give an opportunity for him to gain enough points to take the lead.

The youngster, whose love of cars started when he was small and was prompted by his dad’s enthusiasm for buying, selling and repairing vehicles, said: “I’m in third place right now and my goal is to stay in the top three of the championships, I am quite comfortable with that.

“But that weekend there are three races so I am still in contention to win overall.”

The final race weekend at Brands Hatch also means Harvey is on home territory.

He said: “Brands Hatch is the closest race to home so I will have lots of family and friends there.”

The teenager has already had a taster of the championships by competing in the second half of the event last year after joining Westbourne Motorsport driver development program in May of 2021.

Harvey took part in the JSCC Scholarship in April 2021 being tested on his fitness, media skills and driving ability.

He was selected as one of the final four drivers out of 40 and narrowly missed out on the scholarship prize.

Westbourne noticed Harvey’s potential and decided to bring him onto the team for the last five rounds of that season where he consistently battled for overall top 10 results and rookie podiums.

The race weekend at Brands Hatch offers double points, meaning Harvey, who is also a RNLI beach lifeguard working on isle beaches in the Summer, is in with a real chance of claiming the title.

Harvey is sponsored by Medway based company Pro environmental Ltd.
