Booking open for season’s final Overground Underground Ramsgate Tunnel tours

The Overground Underground tour

As the Summer Season comes to a close, Ramsgate Tunnels is offering two final Overground/Underground Tours on Saturday 17th September and Saturday 1st October.

If you have enjoyed the traditional Explorer Tours, this is a great opportunity to find out more about the town’s air raid tunnels from above ground and then gain access into an original World War Two entrance.

Participants will be shown around the Ramsgate streets following the Tunnels and locate the original war-time entrances. Additional features within the system will be described and locations shown.

If you are new to the Ramsgate Tunnels or a local curious about what is under our town, this is a great opportunity to explore. Did you once have family members staying in the Tunnels during the war? Or perhaps you explored sections in your past? There will be lots of information and answers on why, how and where Ramsgate’s unique Tunnels system is located.

This is a physical and demanding tour of over 2 miles lasting approximately 2.5 hours.

You will be required to climb multiple sets of stairs and descend a 2.5 metre secure steel ladder during the tour. Physical fitness and mobility is essential.

The tour is only suitable for those aged 12 and above. Under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult.

Due to the lack of public toilets en-route, please use seafront facilities prior to the start of the tour and make sure to dress for the weather conditions as the tour will continue if it is raining. Warm clothing is needed for inside the Tunnels which are at a constant temperature of 11 c.

A safety briefing will be given at the start of the tour where you will be issued with a hi-visibility vest. Participants will be issued with hard hats and torches when you enter the Tunnel.
