Pets and Pencils exhibition to open at York Street Gallery

Pets & Pencils by Eric Honzek

Exhibition Pets and Pencils will open at Ramsgate’s York Street Gallery this month.

Artist Eric Honzek will display his detailed graphite pencil drawings and framed prints of cats and dogs at the gallery from August 17-31.

Eric previously worked in the graphics industry producing works for clients including Max factor, Cadbury’s and the BBC. Alongside this he has been creating his animal paintings and drawings for some 50 years.

He said: “After leaving school at the age of 16 I attended the Medway College of Design. I left after three years having successfully completed a course in technical graphics & obtaining a diploma & a City & Guilds qualification.

“Thereafter I was employed by a design studio in London where I was required to provide illustration & camera ready artwork for clients including Max Factor, Cadbury’s and the BBC. Later I worked for various other companies and I also worked on a self-employed basis for a while. During this time I provided illustration for clients both in the UK and abroad.

“Aside from my career in the graphics industry, I have been producing paintings & drawings of animals for nearly 50 years, primarily cats and dogs.

“My favoured mediums are graphite pencil as well as acrylic paint on watercolour board and my artwork has previously been on display in London and numerous galleries in Kent.

“Earlier this year I was invited by the New Kent Art Gallery in Broadstairs to be their guest artist during the month of March where I was able to sell some of my work. In August I hope to repeat this success with my ‘Pets & Pencils’ exhibition at the York Street Gallery in Ramsgate.”

York Street Gallery, which has celebrated its 10th anniversary this year, is at 22 York Street. Opening hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 10.30am to 4pm.
