Crews are attending a shed fire in Margate that has spread to adjoining flats.

Kent Fire and Rescue was called to Tomlin Drive at 5.37pm. A search for people thought to be in the building was carried out and all persons have now been accounted for. Two dogs have been rescued and several people treated for smoke inhalation.

There are currently four appliances and an ambulance at the scene with the area cordoned off as the incident is dealt with.

An electrical safety engineer from UK Power Networks, a gas safety engineer, Kent Police and theKFRS Volunteer Response Team are also attending.

A KFRS spokesperson said: “Fire crews were called to reports of a garden shed alight which soon spread to the ground and first floors of an adjacent block of flats in Tomlin Drive, Margate.

“Firefighters in breathing apparatus are tackling the flames using a combination of high-pressure hoses and a large fan to drive smoke and fumes out of the affected properties. A search of the premises was carried out as it was thought that people were still inside. However all persons were quickly accounted for and two dogs were rescued.

“Several people have been treated by South East Coast Ambulance Service paramedics for the effects of breathing in smoke.”
