Thanet Roadrunner David Winch scoops a World Champion title during London Marathon

Thanet Roadrunner David Winch is a World Champion following his 3:33:34 completion time in the London Marathon on Sunday (October 3).

The 75-year-old, from Margate, is 4th in the world rankings for his age group (75-79) following the inaugural AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Championship race which was held within the London Marathon, David’s race time scooped him the AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Champion title.

David has been running most of his life after first representing his school in the cross county at 14 years old.

In 1980 he was one of the founding members of the Thanet Roadrunners and he still runs every day along the coast.

David has run numerous marathons, including five London Marathons since his first in 1982.

Christopher Brenchley, Thanet Roadrunners AC Men’s Captain, said: “ We are incredibly proud of David Winch’s success at the London Marathon and becoming an Age Group World Champion.

“David has continued to be a fantastic ambassador to the Thanet Roadrunners, wearing our club colours whenever he is racing. Everyone at the club looks up to him and are in awe of his achievements as he proves every day that age is no barrier – a true inspiration.

  1. I’ve known David since primary and secondary school days, and also at work at Petbow/Cummins. he’s always been a great guy, always loved his running.
    Well done fellow, we’re all pleased for your deserved success. Certainly puts me to shame!🙂
