The ballot is now open for free tickets to Visit Kent’s Big Weekend and 17 Thanet attractions are taking part.
The weekend offers people the chance to experience some of the county’s top attractions and hidden gems over the weekend of April 4-5.
Venues in Margate, Broadstairs, Ramsgate and the villages are taking part, providing Thanet residents with a golden opportunity to discover what’s on their doorstep for free.
Experiences on offer range from top attractions such as Dreamland, Ramsgate Tunnels and the Powell-Cotton Museum at Quex Park to hidden gems such as Crampton Tower Museum, Rotten Ramsgate Tours and RAF Manston History Museum. A new participant this year is the recently reopened Margate Caves.
Councillor Ruth Duckworth, Cabinet Member for Corporate Governance and Coastal Development said: “The Kent Big Weekend is the perfect opportunity for local residents to experience what is on their doorstep for free, they can then share the experience with their friends and family when they visit, not just in the main summer season, but during spring, autumn and winter too.
Around 42 million visitors come to the area each year, generating £319 million to the local economy and supporting 7,950 jobs*. We want to further grow the visitor economy and our local residents are our greatest ambassadors.”
Deirdre Wells, Chief Executive, Visit Kent, added: “Once again, we’ve been overwhelmed by the support from attractions and businesses across the Isle of Thanet, and the wider county, with a fantastic range of visitor experiences on offer in this year’s ballot. With over 33,000 pairs of tickets up for grabs, we would encourage all of our residents to get involved and discover the amazing things to see and do right on their doorstep.”
