North Thanet MP Sir Roger Gale has officially opened a new outdoor gym at Salmestone Primary School.

Year 6 prefects had consulted with fellow pupils and asked each class what sort of out door gym equipment they would like to see installed in the playground.

The Parent and Teacher Association (PTA) supported the pupils and donated £6,000 towards the equipment.

Each vote was counted and the relevant pieces chosen. Funds did not quite cover the cost of a sky stepper piece of equipment, but undeterred, pupils organised a bake sale raising £300, and further events are due to take place including a dressing up day and a movie night to reach the total needed.

Sir Roger said “I think these young people have done an amazing job, it is absolutely fantastic, and so of course have the PTA. Everybody has played their part and it wonderful they are going to actually use the kit that they themselves have chosen, and they have helped raised the money.

“I think the amount they raised on the cake bake was simply incredible, it’s a superb effort. A lot of people are going to get a lot of pleasure out of this.”
