A planning application to change the former Hooked on Books store in Margate  into the new Beet Bar vegan restaurant and hotel has been submitted to Thanet council.

The Beet bar, currently located in the Market Street car park, is aiming to create a luxury nine room hotel with restaurant below.

Applicant Paul Blayne aims to create the business at the Grade II listed building at 21 High Street.

The property, which dates to approximately 1840, will have a new shop front created which will resemble the original frontage, urgent work on internal structures, the ground floor will be refurbished to accommodate a restaurant and hotel lounge and a third floor will be built with a roof terrace.

Permission was originally granted in 2016 for the change of use to a hotel.

Beet Bar is already a popular foodie destination since opening in May 2018. It also has two Airbnb rooms.

A decision on the planning application, submitted on February 5, is yet to be made.
