Armed police called to Margate in hoax robbery report

A hoax robbery report resulted in armed police, Kent and British Transport Police officers and ambulance crews attending Margate railway station  on Tuesday (December 17).

The call was made at 10.38pm claiming there was an armed robbery in progress at the station .Officers responding to the call were also spotted in Marine Terrace.

A spokesman for the British Transport Police said: “At 10.38pm on December 17, officers were called to Margate station following a report of an armed robbery. Officers, including firearms officers, attended as a precaution. At this time, the report is believed to be a hoax. Enquiries continue. There have been no arrests.”

South East Coast Ambulance Service confirmed paramedics had been called in to ‘stand by’ but were later stood down.
