Climate change mural adorns Petticoat Lane Emporium in Ramsgate

The mural by Margate artist David Shillinglaw

Margate artist David Shillinglaw has painted a large thought-provoking mural on the roller shutter of Petticoat Lane Emporium in Ramsgate.

The piece shows the Earth crying tears into the sea with the bold caption “Only Planet”. The image and caption is a reference to climate change and aims to act as a reminder that we only have one planet, so we must look after it.

Zak Tozer, from Petticoat Lane Emporium, said: “This message is especially relevant to our premises as we provide a unique and alternative shopping experience that encourages customers to engage in the process of recycling and think about alternate consumer habits which have a much smaller carbon footprint.

“We house approximately 200 independent traders selling vintage, retro, antiques and craft goods. With Christmas around the corner, it’s an especially poignant time to be reminding people that their Amazon gift purchasing options can come with a much deeper consequence.

“A refreshing alternative to the same-old corporate options is to shop secondhand at places like ours or to make your gifts from scratch. Not only will you give your loved one something unique and more meaningful this Christmas, but it will also probably cost you less and leave you with a lighter conscience!”

Petticoat Lane Emporium is at 47 Dumpton Park Drive,, Ramsgate. The mural is on the shutter facing the entrance and exit of the  Montefiore Medical Centre.
