St Laurence academy youngsters dig in to the past

Digging in

Youngsters at St Laurence-in-Thanet Junior Academy have taken part in an archaeological dig.

Year 4 Fry and Hengist classes came together as archaeologists, to find out what they could about the past.

Staff member John Milligan said: “Everyone was thrilled to start digging and we were staggered by some of our finds – a cannon ball, a golden ring, clay pottery and silver bracelets, to name but a few! We can’t wait to share what we have found when we host our museum at the end of term.”

Year 4 will put together a large display of all of their archaeological finds in the school hall in the New Year. The children’s parents will be able to visit ‘the museum’ to view all the finds along with the accompanying descriptive work and displays that have been produced since the dig.
