Margate Winter Gardens regains 5 star food hygiene rating

General manager Paul Palmer and chef Jools Moore

Margate Winter Gardens has reclaimed its FSA 5 Food Hygiene Rating after a temporary downgrade to one star. Thanks to swift and decisive action on the part of the staff and corporate team, the venue was awarded the 5 rating after it was reinspected on Wednesday (November 13).

Kevin Fordham, Managing Director of Your Leisure Kent, said; “I am delighted we can clearly provide the assurance of high standards that our customers understandably expect.”

Previously, Margate Winter Gardens had scored “very good” in the categories of hygienic food handling and kitchen cleanliness. However,  issues in part relating to redundant equipment in the bar cellars and several maintenance issues caused the temporary.

The team worked with Environmental Health to address the areas of concern.

Julian Moore, Head Chef and Catering Manager, said: “I’m really pleased we’ve been able restore the confidence to our customers. The team and I are looking forward to serving the thousands of guests booked in at the venue this party season.”

Paul Palmer, General Manager, added, “I’d like to thank all the team at Margate Winter Gardens for turning this around in such a short timescale.”

Margate Winter Gardens has been welcoming guests for more than 100 years and the team are looking forward to continuing the venue’s grand traditions.
