Margate Yacht Club has put its Fort Hill property up for sale.

The club house, which overlooks the harbour, is being sold through Oakwood Homes, price on application. The property needs improvement works.

Margate Yacht Club, which has been established since 1932, says sailing will continue.

A club spokesperson said: “The members of Margate Yacht Club voted last year to explore the possibility of selling the existing premises in order to create a club area with bespoke, up to date facilities.

“We are looking to achieve this by selling the freehold yet retaining use of the lower floors of the premises which would be developed to our specifications to include training areas, accessible and improved changing facilities and a social space to help us better service our members and the local community.

“This club house will complement the boat park we currently lease from Kent County Council on the Rendezvous site. At this time, we are receipt of a number of offers which are with the club committee for consideration.

“As an RYA Training Centre and community focused club, we feel that this decision will help us to move forward and be able to give more time and attention to offering the opportunity to sail to as many people as possible.

“We are a friendly club and always welcome new sailing and non-sailing members. There are opportunities within the club community to enjoy sailing from afar as well as social sailing, racing, improving and developing sailing skills for adults and children alike. “

Commodore, Sue Anderson said the club is ‘for sale but still sailing on’.
