Margate fashion shop chosen for pop-up at flagship Selfridges store

The Handsome Freaks crew

A Margate alternative fashion store has been chosen to feature as a pop-up in the flagship Oxford Street store of Selfridge.

Seeing individuality where others see anachronism, Handsome Freaks has been bringing vintage and modern skate, street, sports and designer wear to the regenerated heart of Margate for the last six years.

Owner Ally Blackgrove’s commitment to bringing style and originality to the rails, with only pre-loved stock, has remained the core focus of Handsome Freak. Every piece in the shop is hand-picked by Ally in LA and shoppers can discover  vintage Moschino alongside rare Stussy tees from the 80s and 90s as well as racks bulging with fashion/skate crossovers from Supreme, 80s and 90s American classics from Tommy Hilfiger and Guess and a children’s section.

When Depop, in partnership with Selfridges, came looking for the best vintage fashion retailers around the UK to highlight in its pop up at the Oxford Street store, Handsome Freaks were on the hitlist.

The theme for October’s pop up is Uniqueness. Is there anything more unique than taking something out of its original context and forging your own, individual look around it.

Ally said: “Every month or so I pick a few themes that I’m into and create collections that allow our customers to mix and match between these genres to create a completely individual unique look.”.

Whether your look is ‘Y2K Cool Kid’, ‘High Fashion Skater’, 90’s cast member from the movie ‘Clueless’, ‘Myspace Goth’ or ‘Classic Skate Slacker’,get Your (Handsome) Freak On and come and see them at the October 1-31 pop-up on the third floor and on Selfridges.com

The Margate shop is just around the corner from Turner Contemporary, in Broad Street, and is open every day from noon-5pm.
