The Thanet Photographers Collective is now open at the Old Kent Market in Margate.

The works are from the Thanet Photographers facebook group, headed by isle photographer and mentor Frank Leppard.

To celebrate Turner Prize 2019 coming to Turner Contemporary in Margate, the group has arranged for a collective of photographers to showcase their printed art, as experienced through their diverse lenses. The display is upstairs in the Old Kent Market.

Spokesperson and exhibitor Isabelle de Ridder said: “In our age of digital photography when thousands of pictures are taken daily but hardly any get printed, we aim to provide our visitors with their own experience of the kind of impact that a well researched, brilliantly composed and quality printed photograph, whether framed or on canvas, can have on them, maybe as a cool reminder of their visit and great time in Thanet, or simply for their beauty. Every picture tells a story.”

The Old Kent Market building reopened three years ago in Margate and is a mix of diversity, great world foods such as Malaysian and Thai, Greek, West Indian, Pizzas, marvellous micropubs, freshly roasted coffee, barber, jewellery and Hidden Treasures, the Food Bus, Vegan Moody Foody, Gina’s Old Kent Bakery and gluten free outlets. There is food and drink downstairs and upstairs, a mezzanine divided into units with various traders.

The building is accessible to mobility impaired visitors from its side access in Mansion Street, however sadly the upstairs units, where Thanet Photographers Collective is currently exhibiting, does not have a ramp access. The group will be happy to bring downstairs any pictures of interest to visitors.

Isabelle added: “We hope to reignite the power of printed photography, and look forward to a successful exhibition and an exciting Turner Prize 2019 in Margate.”

The Thanet Photographers Collective Exhibition is open from 11am to 5pm daily.
