Candle light events will be held in memory of Lucas

Candlelight memorial events in memory of six-year-old Lucas Dobson will be held across the county.

Lucas lost his life after falling into the River Stour on Saturday (August 17) while out fishing with his dad Nathan and friends.

Despite Nathan and other adults jumping into the water to rescue him, Lucas could not be found.

A huge search was mounted by emergency services and hundreds of volunteers over the course of four full days. Lucas’s body was recovered yesterday morning (August 21) on the fifth day of the search.

His mum Kirsty Furze has thanked all those who helped. In a post to the In Loving Memory of Lucas page the Deal mum said: “I just want to thank each and every one of you. I’m so thankful for donations and the food and being out all hours searching for my baby and for the police and rescue and search team.

“I can’t believe how much my baby has touched all your hearts. He was such a beautiful boy. Lucas is looking down on everyone saying thank you in his own way. Lucas will never ever ever be forgotten. I’m so overwhelmed with the support I have had and so is Lucas’s dad. I really don’t know how else I could show my appreciation to you all.”

In Margate a vigil will be held at the King’s Steps tomorrow (August 23) from 6.30pm until 9pm

On Saturday (August 24) a further vigil will be held by the hands sculpture by Ramsgate Boating Pool, Royal Esplanade, at 6pm.

People are requested to wear red, Lucus’s favourite colour.
