Free creative writing workshops for children to be held in Margate

Workshops for budding young writers

Writing group Thanet Creative will be running four days of free creative workshops this month for children aged 6 to 11 years old.

The sessions will take place across three venues – Turner Contemporary, Margate Library and Tom Thumb Theatre –  from Tuesday, August 27 to Friday, August 30.

Thanks to funding from Arts Council England, children can attend for free and there will also be an opportunity for them to showcase their work on the final day at Tom Thumb Theatre.

Thanet Creative are partnering with literacy agency Read Now Write Now and workshops will focus on writing short stories, poems and a play using the theme ‘Space Chase’ which is this year’s Summer Reading Challenge with The Reading Agency.

Matthew Brown, Chair of Thanet Creative, said: “We are delighted to be running these creative workshops at three amazing and loved locations in Margate. Thanks to funding from Arts Council England there is absolutely no charge to book onto the workshops.

“We know the theme will truly inspire the children to write brilliant poems and stories as well as a play.  There is a lot of creativity out there in Thanet and we look forward to helping nurture a new generation of writers, poets and performers.”

Numbers are limited at the workshops at Turner Contemporary and Tom Thumb Theatre and children must be booked on a first come, first served basis.

Thanet Creative is registering to become an Arts Award provider and children who attend both workshops at Turner Contemporary and Tom Thumb Theatre should be awarded a certificate for attending.
