RNLI lifeguard wristband scheme to help prevent ‘lost’ children on Thanet beaches

The wristbands can be filled in with a carer's details

The RNLI education team is highlighting a safety measure to help parents and carers bringing little ones to the beach.

RNLI Lifeguards on Thanet beaches can issue young children with wristbands, similar to those at event entrances, on which the parent/carer with them can enter their mobile phone number.

Then should the child ‘lose’ their parent/carer on the beach they are told to go to the lifeguard station where the lifeguards will both look after them and phone the number entered.

Margate, Botany Bay, Viking Bay and Joss Bay, Minnis Bay, West Bay Beach, Westbrook Bay, Stone Bay and Ramsgate all have daily lifeguard  patrols until September 1.

To get a child’s wristband simply go to the lifeguard hut when you arrive at the beach.
