St Laurence pupils inspired during careers week by Margate FC stories

Ryan Day, from Margate FC, shared his knowledge with Year 6 pupils

On Monday, former Margate FC media manager and club secretary Ryan Day visited St Laurence Primary School in Ramsgate to share his stories from working in football.

The visit was part of the school’s careers week.

Ryan spent time with Year Six pupils who are considering what career path they wish to follow and the youngsters quizzed Ryan on his time at Hartsdown Park.

The 11-year-olds asked Ryan questions after discussing what different roles there were in the football industry.

Assistant head teacher Louise Buckland said the children had enjoyed the visit from Margate FC, adding: “The children were buzzing to meet Ryan and they were inspired by the stories he had to tell”.

Speaking about the event, Ryan who is still currently involved at the club and is a commentator for Gate:TV said: “It was fantastic to meet the children from St Laurence Primary School. They were so enthusiastic about their futures and asked lots of fantastic questions. I think we have a few budding journalists in there.”

At the end of the session, pupils were invited to attend this Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Welling United. The invitation is extended to primary school children in Thanet, who are entitled to a free ticket for themselves and one adult, to celebrate the renewal of the club’s partnership with Thanet Passport, which organises and supports primary school sports festivals and competitions across the district.
