Ramsgate RNLI called to couple on stranded yacht

Ramsgate RNLI

Ramsgate RNLI launched last night (May 29) to rescue a couple stranded on a yacht off North Foreland.

The  All-weather lifeboat Esme Anderson was launched at 11.14pm at the request of HM Coastguards to a small yacht 9 miles off North Foreland, which had lost its sail and navigation equipment. The wind was blowing about sixteen knots with a slight sea and a swell of half a metre.

Upon arrival the volunteer crew on the lifeboat was able to throw a rope to the couple onboard and tow them back to Ramsgate harbour, where the yacht was able to motor itself into position safely. The lifeboat was back in position ready for service by 1.40am.

The volunteer crew are on call 24/7 to help people in distress and without the support of the public they would not be able to continue their role of saving lives at sea.
