Two young people from Art4All, based in Acol, will have their work displayed at Turner Contemporary after taking prizes in the gallery’s portfolio com[petition.
The theme for this year was Art Rebels and it attracted some 1,300 entries. Of those 106 were shortlisted including two from Art4All which is a group for children and young adults with special needs run by Sandra Hampton.
Bethany Davies competed in the five to seven year old category and Nessie Bigg, 14, was in the special needs category.
Bethany achieved a highly commended place while Foreland Fields student Nessie scooped top prize in her category.
Sandra said: “ Both will be going into Turner Contemporary. What a fabulous achievement for both my talented unique artists.”
Sandra set up the group in January 2016 after the sudden closure of the Royal School for Deaf Children in Margate,
She also offers art sessions for young people affected by cancer. She uses art as a form of therapy to allow the students to create and express themselves through different techniques.
