Blaze at Birchington farm building under control after four hour operation

Kent Fire and Rescue Service

A fire at a farm property in Birchington was brought under control after some four hours of emergency crews fighting the flames.

At its height there were six fire crews at the scene at the home on a farm in Woodchurch Road. Initially three engines attended just after 4pm today (March 17) but this was increased as work to bring the fire under control continued.

The single storey building measuring 25m x 10m suffered extensive damage with the roof completely destroyed. Crews used compressed air foam system to protect other buildings and vehicles, this was to reduce the fire spreading. All animals were safely moved away.

The fire was brought under control by 7pm and was scaled back to four fire engines. It was extinguished fully by 8pm.
