A 13-year-old boy and a 49-year-old woman from Margate have been arrested in connection with a burglary at St Nicholas-at-Wade.

Around one hundred items reported stolen following the burglary at a storage unit on September 23/24 have been recovered by Kent Police.

On Tuesday 8 January officers searched a property in Northdown Road, Cliftonville, and recovered some 200 items believed to be stolen. Around half of those are thought to have been taken during the storage unit burglary.

Items include unique jewellery, custom made curtains and cushions, furniture, lamps, and kitchenware.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods and the boy was detained on suspicion of burglary. Both  have since been released pending further investigation.

Enquiries are ongoing to identify and contact the owners of the remaining seized items.

Investigating officer, Sergeant Liam Johnson said: ‘”Fortunately a victim of a burglary reported last year has been able to prove ownership of some of the seized items through having photographs so has been reunited with them.

“We would always encourage people to document their belongings, take photographs of them, and keep receipts and details of serials numbers separate and safe.

“So if you do ever find your home or property targeted by burglars, it will increase your chances of having the stolen goods returned to you, and also make it harder for any thieves to sell anything on.”
