A police warning has been issued following a distraction burglary in Ramsgate.
The burglary is reported to have taken place at a house in Chichester Road at 2.30am on Friday (January 4).
The occupant was at home when a woman knocked on the door and asked to use the toilet.
PC Mark Huttley said: “The occupant let her in, and popped out to lock up his bike. When he returned the woman had left, taking a number of items with her.”
The stolen items included a Playstation 4, a mobile phone, hair straighteners and a hairdryer, some jewellery, a handbag, a quantity of cash and a skull ornament.
PC Huttley said: “Distraction burglars often prey on a person’s good nature. The victim was only trying to help, yet ended up being taken advantage of.”
The woman is described as being short, around 30-years-old and with long strawberry-blonde hair. She was wearing a blue skirt.
Officers are appealing for anyone who recognises her description or witnessed the incident to contact them.
Anyone with information is asked to call Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting reference number 46/2611/19.
Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers in Kent anonymously on 0800 555 111.
PC Huttley urged people to be on their guard against distraction thieves, saying: “We would always advise people to check the ID of callers before they let them into their homes and to never be afraid to turn people away.”
‘If you are uncertain, ask them to come back when you have a friend or relative with you. Genuine callers will never mind.
‘Ensure rear doors and windows are shut and locked when answering your front door and consider fitting extra security measures such as spy holes, door chains, door locks and intruder alarms,’ he added.
