The person was reported to be in the sea off Ramsgate main sands at around 10:17am.

Ramsgate RNLI carried out a search aboard the inshore life boat, assisted by Rescue 163 (Coastguard Helicopter), a Coastguard mobile unit, a Border Force RIB and a wind farm vessel.

At 10.34am UK Coastguard requested the assistance of the Ramsgate all-weather boat to help with the search. All assets carried out an extensive search, until further information was received that the person had been sighted ashore. Once this had been confirmed by the mobile Coastguard unit, the operation was stood down at 11am.

A Ramsgate RNLI spokesperson said: “We were launched to reports of a person in the water reported from a person on the land.

“However after searching it turns out that the person in the water had made their way back to shore. So launched with good intentions but false alarm! Everyone stood down and returned to base.”
