Man remanded on murder charge following death of six week old Broadstairs baby

A man has been remanded in custody accused of murder following the death of a baby from Broadstairs.

Police were notified on the morning of Monday 23 July that six-week-old six-week-old McKenzie Ellis had been admitted to hospital with injuries and was in a critical condition.

He died three days later.

The boy’s father, Lee Vernon, 20, of no fixed address,was charged with murder following an investigation by detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate.

He was remanded in custody after appearing before Medway magistrates via video link on Friday 7 December and appeared today (December 10) at  Maidstone Crown Court.

Mr Vernon has now been remanded in custody to appear in court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on Friday 1 March 2019.
