Volunteers Anne Townsend, Jenny Woods, Jenny Hicks, Jane and Steve Roberts, Polly Dora, Dave Barber, Tony Keppler (Waitrose branch manager), Clara Gibson, Donna Barber and Natalie Dack (from Waitrose).

The Friends of Ramsgate Seafront group has received a boost with a donation from Waitrose.

The group were one of three chosen for the community scheme where shoppers put a coin in the box of the project they want to support.

The Friends of Ramsgate Seafront received the largest collection and was awarded with a £500 cheque from Natalie Dack, the manager of Waitrose Community Group Support Programme.

The money will be used by volunteers for planting at Winterstoke Gardens.

Group spokesperson Clara Gibson said: “We at FORS are delighted and amazed to receive a cheque for £500.01 which will be spent on plants, some tools and gardening gloves all to be used at the Winterstoke Gardens, where the volunteers have been working for 2-3 hours every week for nearly 4 years.

“We have gathered 1000s of bags of waste and given nearly 3000 hours of volunteer hours.”
