Thieves have stolen a five foot carved donkey from Bruks in Birchington

The popular donkey carving has been stolen

A five foot carved wooden donkey has been stolen from outside a Birchington premises.

The 200kg Shrek donkey carving had been on show for around 10 days outside Bruks carving shop and tree surgery in Shottendane Road.

But sometime between last night and this morning (October 20) thieves swiped the carving which had taken Bruks craftsmen some three days to create.

The theft has caused outrage among villagers who have branded the incident “shameful.”

Kent Police has confirmed officers are investigating.

A Force spokesperson said: “Kent Police has received a report that a wooden donkey statue was taken from outside a property in Shottendane Road, Birchington.

“It is believed the 5ft statue was taken between 7pm on Friday 19 October and 7am on Saturday 20 October.

“Anyone with information should call Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting reference ZY/062656/18.”
