Police appeal after assault in Cliftonville leaves woman with broken jaw

Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a 19-year-old woman was assaulted in Cliftonville on Sunday (September 9).

The woman is reported to have been assaulted bu a man in Sweyn Road between 8pm and 8.30pm. She suffered a fractured jaw.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Carl McGee said: “The victim and offender are known to each other and we believe the assault is linked to a previous report of an assault at a house in Ethelbert Crescent, Cliftonville, earlier that evening, which we are also investigating.

“We are following a number of lines of enquiry but would like to hear from anyone who saw the incident in Sweyn Road so we can establish exactly what took place.

A 19-year-old man from Margate has been arrested on suspicion of assault. He has been bailed until 4 October  while enquiries continue.
