Children from Newington Community Primary in Ramsgate have achieved the best SATS results in the school’s history.
Figures for the tests taken by last year’s Year 6 group continue the upward trend with more than a quarter of the 90 pupils attaining the top grading of ‘higher standard’ in the national attainment tests in reading, writing and mathematics.
Head teacher Cliff Stokes said: “These are Newington’s best results. I am thrilled for the school, the staff, our community and most importantly the pupils who worked so hard.
“They are now reaping the rewards by moving into their secondary education this September with a fantastic platform for their continued success.”
Deputy head teacher Becky Andrews is lead for SATS at Newington. She added: “We are exceptionally proud of the achievements of our Year 6 children last year.
“They have worked incredibly hard throughout their time here at NCPS, showing themselves to be highly driven and determined individuals; we wish them every success in fulfilling their lifelong dreams and ambitions.”
Figures also show that more than 80 per cent of pupils comfortably met the required national standard level in their SATS.
Mr Stokes said: “Our curriculum is centred clearly on bespoke learning for our children and this is paying dividends as we can really focus how we deliver our broad range of subjects.
“Our pupils are encouraged to have high expectations and become self-motivated as they learn new skills that will carry them beyond education into their adult lives.”
Newington pupils are encouraged to look beyond secondary education every year when the school holds its Newington University programme with a whole range of diverse courses offered to pupils during a week-long initiative.
Mr Stokes said: “The university programme raises aspirations for our children. Newington pupils have gone on to Oxbridge and other university education pathways, and we see our Newington University week each year as a vital foundation in their learning experience which is fun as well.
“What is abundantly clear through our results such as SATS, and the way our children respond so positively to their school journey with us, is that Newington is continuing to improve its high standards of all-round education.”
