This week marks 55 years since The Beatles played at Margate Winter Gardens

The Beatles played at the Margate Winter Gardens in July 1963

This week 55 years ago The Beatles played six consecutive nights of concerts at Margate’s Winter Gardens. They played to two shows each night between July 8-13.

At that point The Beatles had nine songs: Roll Over Beethoven, Thank You Girl, Chains, Please Please Me, A Taste Of Honey, I Saw Her Standing There, Baby It’s You, From Me To You and Twist And Shout.

They were supported by Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas, Dean Rogers, Derek Roy, The Lana Sisters and the Pan Yue Jen Troupe.

The Margate shows were three years after they first formed in Liverpool and just a year before the Fab Four hit the International big time with Beatlemania spreading to the States.

Tribute tour

The iconic band will be celebrated with a show by The Mersey Beatles tribute group at the Winter Gardens this November.

The band’s Get Back tour will play the same towns, cities and historic venues the original Fab Four rocked in the 1960s.

The Mersey Beatles have appeared on stage at Liverpool’s  Cavern Club more than 600 times and have been playing to sell-out theatres around the world for almost 20 years.

They retain the spirit of the original Fab Four, from the costumes, the instruments and, of course, the unmistakable live sound from The Cavern Club, Beatlemania to Sgt Pepper and beyond.

The Mersey Beatles appear at Margate Winter Gardens on November 23.

The show starts at 8pm (doors 7:15pm)
