Police officers are at the site of the former Blockbusters/Morrisons store in King Street, Ramsgate, this morning (July 5) responding to a report of a cannabis factory.

Officers raided the site yesterday evening and a presence has remained overnight. An excavation is also being undertaken outside the property.

Hundreds of cannabis plants have been recovered at the site.

Residents reported the pungent smell coming from the building just over a week ago.

A Kent Police spokesman said: “Kent Police was called to an unoccupied building in King Street, Ramsgate following a report of a cannabis cultivation received at 12.08pm on Wednesday 4 July. An estimated total of between 600 and 1,000 plants have been found.

“No arrests have been made. Officers currently remain at the scene while work is ongoing to clear the building and enquiries are ongoing.”

  1. If this had been responded to when I first reported it more than a week ago, they may have been able to apprehend the culprits. But at least the residents who live nearby will be free of the pungent smell we have put up with for a couple of weeks
