Three teens arrested after stolen car crashed into police vehicle in Margate

Three teenagers have been arrested after a stolen car  crashed with a marked police patrol vehicle in Margate.

Kent Police received a report at 1.39am yesterday (June 11) that a Vauxhall Astra convertible had been stolen from the driveway of a house in Lyndhurst Avenue.

The car was found by officers in Palm Bay Avenue and, during a short pursuit, it was involved in a head-on collision with a second patrol car in Dalmeny Avenue, Margate.

The driver fled from the stolen vehicle and the two passengers, a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy, both from Margate, were taken to hospital as a precaution. They were later arrested on suspicion of taking a motor vehicle without consent.

An 18-year-old man, who is also from Margate, was later arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, driving while unfit through drugs and using threatening or abusive behaviour. He was also taken to a local hospital as a precaution. All three have been released while enquiries continue.

The officer driving the police car suffered a minor injury. An officer travelling in the car with him was not injured.
