Free events across the isle as National Bookstart Week kicks off

Children receive a free copy of A Busy Day for Birds

Libraries across the isle will celebrate National Bookstart Week this week (4-10 June).

It’s a chance for families with young children to have fun reading together – anytime, anywhere – and celebrate Bookstart at the same time.

Bookstart is the national book gifting programme for babies and three-year-olds; all children in Kent receive free Bookstart packs when they’re babies (when families register their baby’s birth) and three-year-olds (usually through their early years’ setting).
There will be a chance for families to find out how to get a Bookstart pack too, if they do not already have one.

Pre-school children attending a library rhyme time or storytime can join in with the Bookstart Bird Boogie! There will be bird songs and rhymes, craft activities too – and each child gets their very own mini version of this year’s featured book “A Busy Day for Birds” by Lucy Cousins to take away (while stocks last).

The  book is ideal to read aloud as it is full of actions to do and bird noises to make. The session is free.

More details on National Bookstart Week can be found at their website.
