Thanet District Council’s Tourism team has partnered with Dreamland to produce a 22 second, short film on Margate’s most iconic attractions. The film, which will feature in the 2018 ‘Kent Contemporary’ campaign, marks a promotional first for Visit Kent and will be seen in London underground and overground train stations in a bid to attract visitors.
From the thrills of Dreamland to the mystery of the Shell Grotto by way of modern art at Turner Contemporary and bathing on Margate’s Blue Flag beach, the film captures a snapshot of Margate’s greatest hits. It showcases just some of the most popular things to see or do in the town.
The Kent Contemporary campaign, now in its eighth year, aims to encourage Londoners – and visitors to London – into the county for a day trip or short break. The campaign features striking, modern images of the whole of Kent and includes shots of Viking Bay in Broadstairs and the UK’s only Royal Harbour in Ramsgate.
This is the first year that film content has been created for use in the campaign and the Margate short will feature across digital marketing activity. Digital will run for three weeks with the above the line poster campaign. Regular users of Kings Cross Station will also see the ads on the huge transvision screen during high footfall periods.
Councillor Jason Savage, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Corporate Governance and Coastal Development, Thanet District Council said:
“Our eye-catching images of Broadstairs and Ramsgate have always performed well in this campaign, significantly improving the perception of Kent as having a stunning coastline. It is good to see that Margate which is becoming increasingly popular, is now featured in the digital activity through film.
“With such short journey times from St. Pancras with Southeastern’s high-speed rail service, a trip from London is within spontaneous reach, making it a key market for us to attract visitors from.”
Visit Kent Chief Executive, Sandra Matthews-Marsh MBE, said, “ We’re always delighted to work closely with our partners at Thanet District Council as part of this campaign, and their stunning images of Viking Bay Broadstairs and the Royal Harbour in Ramsgate have become core over the past few years.
“Video is the next natural step for this campaign which continues to grow each year, and we’re extremely excited to release Margate’s enticing film across our digital channels alongside our other core campaign images.
“Whatever your interests or travel preferences, Kent has something to offer everyone this summer, and this campaign is all about sharing a taste of our county with a London audience.”
