New owners promise a ‘transformation’ of Newington Pharmacy

Newington Pharmacy

Newington Pharmacy will be undergoing improvements after being bought by the Manor Pharmacy Group.

In January 2016, the pharmacy was raided by police and NHS Investigators and had its NHS Licence suspended.

There people were arrested on suspicion of defrauding the NHS after the raid.

In March, 2016, the Manor Pharmacy Group – which owns Pierremont Pharmacy in Broadstairs – was able to re-open the site for patients under a temporary NHS licence.

That has now become a permanent arrangement with the completion of its sale.

‘Delighted’

New owner Graham Phillips, who has headed up the manor group for 40 years, said: “Having run the pharmacy on what was planned to be a “temporary” basis for over two years, I’m delighted that all the legal processes are finally over.

“I am pleased to announce that from May 1, I was able to purchase Newington Pharmacy. It is now 100% in my control and this means that I am now in a position to make significant investment in the premises as well as enhance the range of services the pharmacy provides.

“There has already been some regeneration in the Newington area and I and the long-suffering team at the pharmacy plan to play our part.”

Opening hours

From July Newington Pharmacy will be extending the opening hours to Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 6:30pm and only shutting for lunch between 1:30pm and 2pm. It will also be open on Saturday mornings between 9am and noon.

There will also be other improvements and a recruitment drive.

‘Transformation’

Mr Phillips said: “Over the coming weeks and months, you will witness a transformation at Newington Pharmacy.

“Among our exciting plans are new signage and an improved environment plus a new private consultation room where patients will be able to speak to a pharmacist about health concerns in confidence.

“I want to share my plans with the public immediately as without them we don’t have business and I want to show my commitment to them.”

More staff

The pharmacy is actively looking for staff and CV’s can be sent for the attention of Mr D. Atherton  to Newington Pharmacy in Ramsgate or Pierremont Pharmacy in Broadstairs.

Mr Phillips said: “I have several branches including the multi-award winning Pierremont Pharmacy in Broadstairs. My ambition is to bring Newington up to the same exceptional standard as the rest of the pharmacies in my family-owned group.

“I would like to extend my thanks to the existing staff team at Newington Pharmacy who have worked their socks off to keep the show on the road. We have great plans for the future!”
