A ‘fish n chip’ wedding ceremony has taken place at Dreamland

The wedding party at Dreamland

Move over Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Dreamland in Margate has played host to its very own wedding of the year.

Dave Cox, whose parents volunteer with Ramsgate RNLI, and Amy Purfield-Clark celebrated their big day at the amusement park on Saturday (May 12), the first wedding to be held at Dreamland in 2018 so far.

The ceremony and wedding breakfast were held in Dreamland’s  Grade II* listed ballroom, with Prosecco and canapés served in the Treetop Bar.

The wedding party then moved to the roller disco and penny arcade for an evening of dancing. In keeping with the seaside theme, the couple chose fish and chips to serve to their guests.

Amy said: “When we first got engaged we were all set to run off to Vegas, but as we announced our engagement we had so many friends and family saying how they couldn’t wait to celebrate our big day, we started to look at venues in England.

“We really wanted somewhere relaxed and fun, and Dave had the idea of Dreamland. We’ve had plenty of fun days there in the past and it felt like the perfect setting for our wedding.”

Lesley Ellard, Corporate Sales Manager at Dreamland, said: “Dreamland is a totally unique wedding venue. Couples who are looking for something different have so many options here and their experience is truly tailor-made.”

Dreamland will also be celebrating the Royal Wedding with a ‘street party’.

Visitors to the amusement park on Saturday, May 19 will be able to watch a live screening of the event at the amusement park’s outdoor Scenic Stage, followed by a screening of the FA Cup Final.

The park will be offering free entry and an unlimited ride wristband to anyone who has the name Harry or Meghan* (various spellings permitted, must present valid ID) or to anyone wearing a wedding dress. There will be a mass bouquet toss for the chance to win a meal at Cinque Ports in Margate, as well as plenty of photo opportunities with fun props.

Dreamland is also inviting everyone to bring a dish, pack a picnic or snack or a homemade sarnie for one day only and is running a competition on Facebook for the best Harry and Meghan lookalikes.

The screenings will be free with park entry. Dreamland will extend its opening hours specially for the events, opening from 11am until 8pm. Entry starts from £5.
