A Ramsgate micropub has celebrated its second anniversary by overhauling its back garden ready for the Summer rush.

NauticAles on Margate Road combined second birthday and St George’s Day celebrations on Monday with bunting, beer and homemade St George cupcakes.

Owner Micky Rush, 60, is now looking ahead to a busy Summer with the new garden and smokers area.

The grandad-of-two, from Broadstairs, who employs 4 staff at the micropub, said: “It has been a work in progress, the back looked a mess but is a really nice, enclosed beer garden now. There is seating for about 25 and I have put in new lighting.

“There have been lots of highlights over the two years. Right from the off we brewed our own beer, Maiden Voyage, with The 4 Candles, and that was in the top 3 sales at the Thanet beer festival.

“We are doing well on our ciders and have 16 different ones and we run the Monday Club, when lots of micropubs are closed, with 50p off a pint.

“We have made this year’s Good Beer Guide and it’s all running nicely.”
