A Strongman and woman contest will be held in Ramsgate

The competition will take place at Waugh Machines Gym in Ramsgate

Strongmen and women will be pulling trucks, lifting cars and hefting sandbags as part of a competition being held in Ramsgate next month.

The Strongman contest, thought to be the first in Thanet, is open to men and women to take part in five sections.

There will be three competition groups, men over 90kg, men under 90kg and women of all weights.

The first event will be the truck pull (ladies-transit or flatbed) for 20metres.

Then it will be the log lifting event, followed by 90 second car lifts (tyre lift for women).

The remaining two sections are the farmer’s walk – which involves a tyre flip along 20metres and then the sandbag over the yoke lift.

The competition is being organised by Waugh Machines Gym in Whitehall Road which is run by Nikky Nicks and Paul Waugh.

It will take place at the gym on May 6 from 9.30am. Competitors can sign up in advance or on the day.
