Nine goal thriller in Bluebirds vs Maidstone match

Bluebirds vs Maidstone in March

Margate Ladies FC (Bluebirds) hit lucky in the opening few minutes of their latest match after a cracking cross from Amy Hemingway landed perfectly far post and an all out dive to connect to the ball saw Kara Richardson score the opener.

The team knew Maidstone would come back fighting after last year’s games and Sunday (March 25) was no exception. Margate went 3-1 down after a chaotic 10 minutes.

The game seemed to settle with Margate chasing a two goal deficit with fresh legs coming on the pitch. Six minutes before half time, Kara again got on the end of a fantastic cross by Harriet Woolston.

Minutes later Margate were awarded a penalty after Kara was taken down in the box. Beth Cooper slotted home a calm finish for Margate to be 3-3 going in at half time.

A mere minute before half time and confusion between the Maidstone defence and goal keeper saw Kara get her half time hat trick and Margate went in 4-3 up.

The start of second half Maidstone came back fighting and equalised to make 4-4 in the first 5 minutes.

The Bluebirds dug in deep and with 20 minutes to go Beth hit a long range shot into the back of net.

Maidstone pushed for an equalising goal but with a cool head at the back Emerald Scannell bossed her defence and the game finished 5-4 to Margate.

Maidstone is always a goals galore game and this match was no exception. The Bluebirds now travel away to Dartford for 3 points.

Kara Richardson now has 96 goals for Margate in four seasons and the count down is on for her to reach her century.
