Archbishop of Canterbury hits the Thanet Academy FM air waves

The Archbishop is welcomed by (left to right) station manager Bob Mower, chairman Vic Todd and trustee Doc Atherton

Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby appeared on Academy FM on Sunday as part of his Holy Week spent in Thanet.

His visit came on the recommendation of the Reverend Jan Durrans of St-Peter-in Thanet Church, who accompanied the Archbishop and his wife Caroline to the studios at the Royal Harbour Academy in Ramsgate.

Welcoming them were station manager Bob Mower, chairman Vic Todd and fellow trustee Doc Atherton, along with newsreader David Stringer and presenter Horace Hotman.

Archbishop Welby joins Mary and James Pringle for their programme

In his first non-BBC radio interview, the Archbishop and the Rev Durrans joined James and Mary Pringle for a half-hour chat in their programme, The VIP Lounge. They discussed plans for the Thanet week – including today’s (March 27) public question and answer session at the Royal Victoria Pavilion in Ramsgate – as well as Justin Welby’s wider priorities and concerns.

His chosen music was Matt Redman’s 10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord), and he spoke amusingly of his hopes that all goes smoothly when he officiates at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
