Ramsgate junior school warning to parents after pupil approached by a stranger

Parents and other schools have been made aware of the incident

A junior school in Ramsgate has asked parents not to let their children walk home alone after a pupil was approached by a man yesterday (March 15).

The girl was walking through Warre Rec from St Laurence junior school in Newington Road when the incident took place.

The youngster was with friends and the man left.

Head teacher Michelle Palmer said the girl was not hurt but a message has been issued to parents and other schools have been contacted just to make them aware.

She said: “The incident happened outside of school hours and police have dealt with it.

“A child was approached. Nothing happened but it made her feel uncomfortable and she reported it to her parents. Our children are very vigilant and she knew that it was wrong.

“We are just asking parents to be aware and to not let their children walk home alone, particularly through the park.

“I have contacted other schools and police are aware.”

A Kent Police spokesman said: “Kent Police was called at 5.32pm on 15 March to reports of a man acting in a suspicious way in the Warre Recreation Ground,  Ramsgate. Officers attended but no suspicious persons were located. Enquiries are on-going.”
