Police close Canterbury Road West following multi-vehicle crashes

The A299 Canterbury Road West was closed this morning due to at least three accidents this morning (March 2)

There is also queueing traffic due to the accident and ice on A299 Canterbury Road West both ways between A256 Haine Road and A253.

Police have attended at least three accidents on the stretch with at least one involving an overturned vehicle.

Further up the Thanet Way is also partially blocked and there is very slow traffic due to an accident and ice on A299 both ways between Thanet Way and A290 Clapham Hill.

There are reports of a number of accidents with vehicles skidding and hitting the central reservation. Police have also closed the A299 between Cliffsend and Monkton and the London-bound stretch from Minster McDonalds to the Thanet earth turn off.

Kent Police say they have attended a series of incidents on the Thanet way stretch this morning.

Officers were called at 8.47am  to the coastbound carriageway of the A299 Thanet Way to reports of an overturned car just past the Whitstable exit. Further single-vehicle collisions have been reported on the same stretch of road. The South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene. Three people reported injuries and were treated by paramedics.

A report of a collision involving a car on the Londonbound carriageway near to Herne Bay at 8.20am. No injuries are reported and the vehicle is being recovered.

Officers were also called to the Londonbound carriageway near the Minster roundabout on the A299 at 8.36am , following reports of three collisions on the stretch of road. No injuries reported. The Londonbound road is currently closed between Minster and Monkton while vehicles are recovered and the road surface is treated.

Three-vehicle collision in Hengist Way, Ramsgate at 8.50am. No injuries have been reported, officers are at the scene. Road is currently closed from Cliffs End roundabout Londonbound  to Monkton.

The Sandwich Bypass is also shut  Dover-bound.

Police were called at 8.59am to the A299 Thanet Way coastbound by the Thornden Wood junction, Herne Bay. Two single-vehicle collisions, one which has collided with the central reservation. No injuries have been reported. Rolling roadblock is on while work is ongoing to recover the vehicle.
