Victory for Thanet Colts Ladies in first match of the year

Victory for Thanet Colts Ladies

Thanet Colts Ladies have played their first game of 2018 taking a 4-1 win against Long Lane Development.

The first 30 minutes saw both teams create chances but first on the score sheet was Colts with midfielder Amy Robinson scoring a powerful low shot which was too hot to handle for the goalkeeper.

Colts keeper Jade Arthur kept it an 1-0 making a save at the feet of the striker at the end of the first half.

Second half saw Long Lane change their attack with three players pressing Colts defence leafing to a dubious decision of offside, levelling the score to 1-1.

Colts Sandra Nightingale reacted with an impressive run down the left side from her own half, outwitting the defence to cut in and strike the ball over the goalkeeper, in off the top post, to make the score 2-1 to the Colts.

With 20 minutes to go Long Lane tried to level the score but could not break through Colts defence. Centre back Melanie Tsangarides then carried the ball out of the defence, driving it forward to link up play in midfield with Hannah Chapman slotting it past the keeper to take Colts to 3-1.

Colts continued to press and with five minutes to go Harriet Woolston drilled a low strike, bottom corner, leaving the keeper rooted to the spot and Colts securing the lead.

A superb team effort saw the Ladies take the 3 points with the 4-1 win, giving them the momentum to carry on the winning streak for next week’s game, the quarter finals of the Kent Plate.
