Seven sets of twins have joined Upton Juniors – Again!

Upton Juniors is twin-tastic!

When Upton Junior School in Broadstairs welcomed seven sets of twins into Year 3 in September 2015 it was regarded as a unique occurrence, something that the staff had never seen before.

The unusual twin tale made headlines in local education circles, in the press and on social media.

But just a couple of years on and Upton staff have double vision yet again – as a further seven sets of twins joined in the 2017 intake of children.

Head of School Darci Arthur said: “We just could not believe our eyes. It is extremely unusual to have that many twins join in one year group. For it to happen again just two years later is extraordinary.

“I have never known anything like it in my career and neither have my colleagues.”

Among the twins there are sets of identical siblings who can only be told apart by their different mannerisms, preferred subjects and other minute tell-tale physical appearance signs.

But Miss Arthur said: “It can still be a challenge to tell them apart. We are getting used to their differences but sometimes we still have to do a double take.”

When the twins gathered for a photo, it was clear that like all siblings they do have their differences. But one thing they all agree on is that Upton is twice as much fun together.
