Open School East’s Cliftonville exhibition and packed weekend of events

Open School East

New art created by artists working with Cliftonville’s Open School East will be exhibited this weekend (November 24-26).

The Well is organised by guest curator Cédric Fauq, ‘ working with artists during their time at OSE.

Made both individually and collaboratively, the works will be presented through the format of a group exhibition, a series of live events and a publication.

The Well will take place at Open School East, 50 Athelstan Road,and will extend into the Pettman Auction House through a hidden passage way.

Whitstable-based artist Benedict Drew will also premiere Spelunking, an 8-week long collective video project, commissioned by OSE, and made with the OSE associate artists and members of the public. The video will be aired across the weekend on the hour and half past the hour.

The forms and themes running through the works of the associates have been inspired by each other and through those who have tutored or mentored at OSE, including Sally O’Reilly, Matthew Darbyshire, Flora Parrott and Maki Suzuki, as well as by the public events they have collectively devised.

The exhibition and events will present work in media varying from sculpture, sound, performance, painting, video and installation.

The weekend will also host a series of live performances by the OSE associates.

Saturday and Sunday, November 25-26 at 12pm-6pm.

The exhibition and events are free of charge and open to all.

Jessica Jordan-Wrench ‘I Told You There Was Something In The Air’ will play on the hour, quarter past, half past and quarter to every hour.

Kristofer Lock ‘A Subaqueous Assemblage’ will play at half past the hour every hour.

Spelunking is a 30 minute video and will play on the hour and half past the hour.

The 2017 associates are Chloe Ashley, Roxman Gatt, Emma Gibson, George Harding, Jessica Jordan-Wrench, Kris Lock, Jo Murray, Lou Lou Sainsbury, Jo Sweeney, Sara Trillo, Emily Whitebread and Jacob P Woods.
