Get ready for Panto season and The Wizard of Oz at the Theatre Royal

Panto season is nearly upon us (Oh yes it is) and Wicked Productions return to the Theatre Royal Margate for their third stage spectacular this year.

Pantomime has been around since the Middle Ages entertaining all, particularly children, at Christmas. As we know it today it is usually based on a fairytale and this year Wicked & Captiv8 Productions, famous for their panto fun, will stage The Wizard of Oz.

Join Kansas girl Dorothy Gale as she’s blown away to the magical and enchanted land of Oz.

On her journey to the Emerald City she is joined by a Scarecrow, with no brain, a Tin Man, with no heart, and a cowardly Lion. Will their wishes be granted by the all-powerful Wizard of Oz, or will their plan be thwarted by the Wicked Witch of the West?

‘Jezo’ returns for his third year to play the lovable and hilarious Scarecrow, whilst Margate pantomime favourite, Georgia Rowland-Elliott, will return to play Dorothy.

With chart topping songs, opulent costumes, a stunning set and endless effects – this Christmas Pantomime promises to be a lavish laugh-a-minute family show!

Each year around 10,000 people enjoy the Theatre Royal Margate’s panto. This year is no different with sales surpassing last year already!

We asked Pam Hardiman the Theatre Royal Programme Manager what makes the panto season so special.

She said: “Live pantomime provides the experience of laugh out loud family fun which creates memories that last long beyond childhood. As such the traditional pantomime remains an important part of our national culture. Everyone remembers their first panto experience.”

Performances for the Wizard of Oz open on Saturday, December 9 and run through until New Year’s Eve – The Get Your Own Back Finale – so there’s no excuse not to pay the historic Theatre Royal Margate a visit and experience for yourself the magic of a live Christmas panto.
