The waterspout

This waterspout off Ramsgate yesterday morning (September 2) was caught on film by isle photographer Malcolm Kirkaldie.

A waterspout is formed by condensation in the cloud. There are two major types of waterspouts: tornadic waterspouts and fair-weather waterspouts.

Fair weather waterspouts usually form along the dark flat base of a line of developing cumulus clouds. This type of waterspout is generally not associated with thunderstorms.
